Really it was how society was.
It was a "mans world"
So only MEN had a say in how it all was run.
It had nothing to do with intellect,
in fact Washington always gave credit to Martha, for her intellegance.

Because women tend to be more emotional, and tend to make important decisions based on feelings rather than facts.
Therefore, since women have become an important voting bloc, politicians have increasingly sought to run for office based on legislation that makes no rational sense, but feels warm and fuzzy.
Yeah, I know you're going to vote me down. Just do me a favor, okay?
Prove me wrong.

It was probably felt that they would see a very capable man and vote for him because they developed crushes on him rather than because he was the better candidate. I think the "arousal" factor pushed clinton over the hump both times, but of course I haven't conducted any studies to confirm this.

That's how people were back in that time period. Women were meant to stay at home and cook and clean house. The women's rights movement started and changed all that.

No it was not that. Women did not own property and did not participate in government. THings were different. It is hard to understand but our way of thinking about this sort of thing is very new and revolutionary, in the long scheme of things.

Hi Amber,
Historically women were the "property" of their men. They were not viewed as individuals who made decisions. They kept house, had babies, and kept their husbands happy. That was their station in life. As with all things that changed through the years.
