That there is a function. You can't really sovle functions too much. If you're given a value for x, you can subtract 2 to find a value for the function. If you're given a sheet of graph paper, you can draw a line with slope of one and y-intercept of -2. If you're looking, say, for the zero of the function, you can say that p(x)=0 when x=2. You could go as far as taking the derivative, and finding that the slope is always 1, or integrate and find that this function is always the slope of f(x)=.5x^2+2x+c. That may be going a little far, though.
