My friend used one of these kits a few weeks ago to do his baby girls hands and feet. The tinted film was the wrapper for the clay, not actually part of the kit. (he could have had a different type of kit). He said all he did was press the clay into the frame, press his girls hands into it to make an impression, and then bake. The frame came with clear glass to go over it and his wife added some extra things (similar to scrap-booking). Here's the link to the Sculpey website with tutorials, kit instructions, etc...

I've never used one of those kits but I am quite familiar with polymer clay.

I tried to find some better photos of exactly what the film might look like (size, etc.) or how it's used, but couldn't easily.

This page though

says that the kit comes with a sheet of plastic to "protect the photo" or hold in in the frame, and often sheets of acrylic will come with a piece of blue plastic on both sides to keep them from scratching till they're used (film is peel-off). Don't know if that's what you have though.

At first, I thought it might be for placing the clay on while rolling out and imprinting with the hand so that it wouldn't leave an oily spot where it sat too long, but can't tell about that either from the photos.

Can you give any more info that might help us understand?
