I know when I was little I would get tears in my eyes because we played with the baby lamb (well they are actually a year old but I like calling it a baby lamb) for a week and then dad or grandpa would have to kill it and feed it to the family and the neighbor's. Dad said we could share the lamb because our family wasn't big enough to eat a whole one. I know the little ones today get sad and i had to hold one last year in my arms and take her inside. She was so precious...I guess it is that time of year again now and I just wanted to know what everyones thoughts was on this. I know it is commanded and there is a lot of symbolism now that I am adult, but I still can't help but shed a tear sometimes. We can definately look back to our ancestors coming out of Egypt and thank God for his mercy and sparing the lives of the firstborn males, you know? It's not all bad :)

You just reminded me of this past Christmas...we took the kids to Central America to visit grandparents. They had a couple of hens that they had been raising specially for Christmas Eve...well the kids played with them, fed them and chase them around. They fell in love with them...the problem was when it was time to get them ready for dinner...let me tell you...they cried and cried and got mad at us for allowing grandma to kill the "pets". Even though we explain to them that the hens were not pets...they didn't eat dinner with us. We had to order something for them.

I grew up on a farm. We would name our cows and pigs and sheep and play with them when they were babies and then they'd all go off to slaughter and we'd enjoy eating them. Sometimes we'd even ask mom "Who are we eating tonight?"

We knew how it went. That's just how things go when you live on a farm.
