It's not uncommon to have a period skip a month or two, especially if it is someone starting out with their period. Sometimes those of us who have had our period for years can skip a month because of stress playing in to the cycle that month.
It's when the periods start to come about every 3 months or longer (unless it's a young lady just starting out) that then there is reason for worry and should be evaluated by a dr.
Yes, sometimes the period can start a day later than our calendars indicate.
And I found that my periods did not always come exactly 30 days from the last one. The normal menstrual cycle is 28-35 days in length.

Periods can be affected by a number of things such as diet, exercise or even illness. Girls with anorexia nurvosa, the slimmers disease, will stop menstrating and many top athletes stop menstrating when they exercise intensly and regularly. Sometimes it takes the body a while to get into a regular menstral cycle, so periods can be irregular when you first start. Many years ago my friend had a sort of fit and was told in hospital that her brain wasn't synchronising with her period which caused the fit, but this I think was an exception. I've never heard that happen to anyone else and i'm a qualified nurse!

It's possible to have an irregular period and skip a full month. I used to until I had my first child. But there is no way to predict your cycle. Your body does what it does when it wants and every woman is different. Also, other factor can change your cycle such as age, birth control, medications, illness and even a change of environment such as traveling. So the only thing to do is wait it out and if it bothers you that much see a GYN or medical doctor about it. Until then, girl join the club cause mine is all over the place!!

After your first period? First, congratulations are in order.
For the first few years after you reach menarche, your cycle will be irregular. That's simply because it takes time for your body to adjust to it's new role.
It's easy to be prepared, though. Keep a couple of pads and a clean pair of panties in your knapsack or whatever, at all times. Put them in a resealable plastic bag, so they stay clean, and put a second such bag in there as well, in case you have to change your panties. If you do have to change your panties, rinse them as well as you can with cold water as soon as you can. It helps to keep the stain from setting.
Now, if you haven't already done so, tell your mother or any other older female relative that you've joined the ranks. They will want to celebrate with you, and they've been there, too, so they can also answer questions.

normally women's periods occur each month, sometimes this can vary to be slightly more or less days.
but if it's your first period, it won't be so regular yet. sometimes, you can get your first period, then wait 6 months until your next. and this could happen for the first 3 years you have periods. you basically just have to wait it out for the cycle to become normal.

unfortunately periods are very unpredictable in the early stages. you may not get on for another year and it can take up to 18 months for them to settle into a pattern. just keep towels or tampons\with you all the time and you will start to recognize the signs.
