EmmaWee, for one thing, I know ALOT of cool kids who don't have a cell phone.
Maybe your bro is more responsible than you were at that age. Think about it.
Quit whining, you have a cell phone, in fact, you probably have every electronic device.
Hope this helps!
God Bless!

Personally I think some children are far too young NEED a cell phone. They may WANT a cell phone to create an image for themselves. If you need a cell phone to be cool or accepted what are your friends saying about you ( you about them).Too many people ,adults as well ,have the cell phone glued to their ear .They talk on the phone during their shopping, dining out or on the drive to work. How many of these calls are truely that urgent.I guess because I grew up when the only phone available for urgent calls outside the home was a payphone I have my own definition of emergancy.I think a cell phone IS IMPORTANT if you are driving and may have a breakdown you can call for help, Your child can call you in an emergancy, etc. So in answer to your question I DON'T think your brother needs a cell phone,he wants one.To me a child should be asking permission to go somewhere, visit friends, etc before they go out. I like home phones because you can tell WHERE your child is calling from.ANY PARENT should be able to grasp the wisdom of what I am saying. With a cell phone your child can be calling from anywhere and you wouldn't know the difference. Cell phones are useful tools but they are no substitute for parental supervision.

I got mine in the middle of 6th and 7th grade... I think I was waaay too young... my brother is in 4th grade too and he begs for everything. I know it's hard to not have what everyone has now, but it pays off, trust me. Sounds like you may be kind of jealous.
The reasons you should have a cell phone is:
1. Only if you take the bus because you might miss it and it beats walking home!
2. If you walk home and it starts pouring.
3. Just for emergencies if you are alone most of the time.
Ask your brother what he would do with it. He's still too young. Ask your parents. It's better to get a phone when you're older because you might get a better phone for a better deal.

I bought my 9 year old son one and he's in the third grade. it all depends on if your little bro is responsible enough for one.
See, Derrick, my son, kept bugging me for one, so we made a deal that he does all his chores and keeps his room clean, he gets an allowance and he has to buy his own minutes with his allowance. Of course I started him out with the phone and his first 60 minutes. He uses it to call his dad and if there's a problem at school or after school. He's fairly responsible for a 9 year old boy. If your brother can handle it then he can have a phone. my 5 year old is WAY to young for a phone though, he'd probably lose it. Then again, I spoil my boys.

I didn't get a cell phone until I was 40+ years old!!! Got through school and everything else just fine.
My niece and nephew are in junior high and have cell phones. Their parents got them the phones, but they have to buy the minutes with money they earn from their neighborhood jobs. As you can guess, my niece and nephew very rarely use their cells!

He has no point in having one instead of calling important people. What you do is turn his wants against him. He wants a phone to call friends and text message. He makes the arguement that it's useful in calling his parents.
How do you use this info against him? Simple:
Go-phone.
Y'know the phone that has no number buttons, and all you can do is call like 5 ppl. All parents control.
His arguement will be accomplished yet he will not be able to do what he really wanted to do.

Why is it such a big deal to you whether he has a cell phone or not?
The less you complain about it and the more you try to understand and respect your parent's decision, the more you will not only be respected, but you will also sound much more mature than a little spoiled brat complaining about something that really doesn't affect her.

I think you're too young for a phone too. I still don't see the point in giving kids phones unless you are going to let them run wild, but that's my opinion. Sounds like your brother needs one too, since you do.

Each generation has things a little better than the generation before them.
Your parents didn't have cell phones until they were adults, your grandparents never even heard of cell phones. They are not jealous or envious of you, in fact they want you to have all of the things that they did not have.
You should not be jealous or envious of your brother, you should want for him everything that you have and more.
Ask yourself, why did Cane kill Able? Recognize jealousy and envy and get them out of your heart.

I think that both of you are too young to have a cell phone! My first cell phone was when I was 20yrs. I have a daughter in 3rd grade and will not be going place's unattended any time soon and will not need a cell phone. I don't think that you should get a cell phone until you are at least in middle school.
