check out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825104001 - USR usually has some really good modems at good prices. Back when dial-up was the it, US Robotics was too and I'm sure they are still putting out good stuff. Although if DSL is available in her area, you may reccomend that to her instead. It is usually just as cheap and there are usually different speeds. If she was to get the lowest speed, it will still be at least twice as fast as the 56K and more reliable. That is also if it is available in the area.

I wager it ability a noisy line or an unbalanced line. you could no longer unavoidably pay attention the noise. the telephone corporation might want again out and attempt it. in case you will possibly be able to desire to purchase a clean modem, get a hardware modem, no longer a utility or win modem. you do no longer go with to apply CPU cycles to run your modem. i does no longer propose deceiving and stealing centers from the telephone corporation like some ought to signify. it truly is morally incorrect and disgusting.

Those are commodity items, now -- which means they all have the same features, and pretty much the same hardware.
When it comes to commodity items, the only factor to consider is cost. You can get them for as cheap as $7 online.
