Uncycled tank, cloudy water, goldfish dead. Prior to the fish's death, it was covered with fuzzy (cotton like) white stuff (not ick).. is this cotton like stuff from the uncycled tank? do i have to flush the tank out or just continue to cycle the tank out??

Ok the white cotton looking stuff is Fugus, the Cloudy water is caused by High Ammonia in the water goldfish's waste produces alot of this.. Fungus killed the fish not the uncycled tank...all a cycled tank does is ensure is your water quality is where it belongs to support healthy fish. I recommend is to Cycle the tank and treat it for fungus (rember to remove the carbon(the charcoal) from your filter)

The white stuff you saw on the fish was a fungus and not due to cycling the tank. Assuming you have other fish in the tank continue the cycle and treat any other fish for fungus with a good fungus treatment. If you have no other fish, do a big water change and wait several days before adding a new fish.

You need to be cleaning your fish tank more and yes you do need a filter especially for gold fish. When I had goldfish, I didn't have a filter and longest they lasted was 3 weeks. Betas are much easier to take care of but you can only have 1.

Your fish got or had fungus. Nxt time use a salt dip or an ich medication to kill off the fungus.
