The peace sign is a sign that is world wide recognized by many people. This sign is a circle with one long line opening two more lines at the end of the line and it’s inside a circle. The Peace sign means peace, and usually when a movement takes place or people are protesting towards a right they feel they should have, they often bring symbols of the Peace sign to keep peace and encourage everyone to maintain calm and peaceful. Even though most of us know this sign as the Peace Symbol in Britain, this symbol is known as the Nuclear Disarmament. This symbol was created by a member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament Gerald Halton in 1958. His purpose for this sign was to use it as a badge of the “Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War” and now look at all the recognition this symbol has received since then, by the majority of us. In the United States it received most of its recognition in the 1960’s and 1970’s with the U.S. antiwar movement.

ACTUALLY- don't listen to anything the others say. I KNOW the answer. During world war something or other, americans going out to fight would do the peace sign which meant "V" for "Victory!". Soon it stuck and people forgot about the war and just thought it was for peace. Check sign language, the letter V is the same as the peace sign.

It is the broken cross, it was made mainly by the hippies and they didn't believe in God. That had that rebellious movement where the women wouldn't wear bras even some people refused to use the restroom and did it on themselves. Its not a sign of peace its actually a sign of rebellion.
