i had heard that too, but you're question made me go ahead and look it up for my own curiosity.

yes, they were once a christian rock band. their original sales in christian stores and had great popularity on the christian charts.
and no, they no longer consider themselves a christian band, now th at ben moody (co-founder) is no longer a member.

from wikipedia:
Originally promoted in Christian stores, the band eventually made it clear they did not want to be considered as part of the Christian rock genre. Wind-up Records chairman Alan Meltzer issued a press release in April 2003 asking for the band's music to be removed from Christian retail outlets.[29]

When asked by Billboard in 2006 if Evanescence was a "Christian band," Amy Lee responded, "Can we please skip the Christian thing? I'm so over it. It's the lamest thing. I fought that from the beginning; I never wanted to be associated with it. It was a Ben thing. It's over."[34]

great question!

No, Evanescance is too dark to be a Christian band. Not that I'm going to label them. But they were on a Christian rock CD because "Bring Me To Life" can be tied to God.

Supposivly, Amy Lee follows no religion

They could be a Christian band but I don't know for sure. I know they worked with 12 Stones in Bring Me To Life. I know that 12 Stones is a Christian band. You can check out their music at www.myspace.com/12stones but 12 Stones was featured on Bring Me To Life and 12 Stones also appeared in the Bring Me To Life music video. Paul McCoy did the singing and yelling in Bring Me To Life and Paul McCoy is also the lead singer of 12 Stones. That is all I know.

Evanescence was once reffered to as a Christian band because of there references to God and stuff. The band, though, didn't want to be reffered to as a Christian band, so the stores that sold Chrisitan albums stopped selling there music there. So: they were, but they didn't want to be.

If you read the credits on the first album, Ben thanks Jesus, his lord and saviour. I have listened to both albums many times. That's the only thing Christian I have ever noticed.
