My foot is in plaster and I can't drive for 6 weeks. I have a nearly new (2.5k miles) diesel X-Trail. Should I go out and run the engine for 15 minutes or so once or twice a week or should I leave it and hope that it starts when I am able to drive again? I don't know anybody who I can trust to take it for a run for me in that time and can't afford the extra insurance even if I did.

If you leave the vehicle sat for six weeks its going to need jumpstarting and a good service, if you start it for half an hour once or twice a week it will be fine. Just don't drive it or the rest of you will be in plaster!!

Cheers

The worse thing you can do to an engine is just let it idle for a short period of time. All you do is build up condensation. Your better off leaving it alone if it's just six weeks!

Computers, radio memory, and all the other crap in these new cars require power even when the're just sitting there doing nothing.

If it were me, I'd start it twice a week.

ADDED; I meant to say they'll draw your battery down just sitting there.

The car should be able to survive 6 weeks unused. Leave it

No that's crazy. Just drive upsidedown. Use your hands for the brake and accelerator and your good foot for steering. I'm assuming you have an automatic. If it is a standard transmission, shift with your butt.
