i just recently quit my job, due to health reasons.
I would like to know if my ex work can give me a bad reference, cos i resigned and not got a really good attendance record, due to being ill.
Serious answers please.
Thanks in advance

They cannot give you a bad reference, they can refuse to give you a reference though.
I think they can advise on attendance, alot of companies ask this now.

Most employers these days will only supply facts and not opinions. Unfortunately your attendance record is factual so they might mention it - although being ill is a mitigating factor. I don't bother asking for references any more, if an employee is bad the company wants to get rid of them anyway so they will usually give a good reference.

Yes, they can, but the real determining factor would be what kind of relationship you had with the company and your supervisors. What was your track record like? Yes, you were out a lot, but did you give them ample notice when you were to be out? Did you try to alleviate the load of your absence? The easiest way to address this concern would be to ask your former supervisor directly if you can use him as a positive reference in the future when you are able to work again. If he/she seems uncomfortable with the request, then don't list him/her.

I think employers required to give you a standard but positive reference so as not to prevent you from getting another job (you can take them to court if they do).
However I think there isn't a lot you can do if they give a verbal reference comment about your attendance.
Hope you feeling better soon - Good Wishes

I they cant geive a bade reference, they can however refuse which I think speaks volumes.
However if the new workplace ask for an attendence record they can provide it and I think the new employer will ask 'would you recruit this person again'

They can tell a prospective employer anything that is TRUE.
But, you might speak to them - many companies will only give dates you worked, title & pay rate. If that's their policy (or they are willing to do that for you) you don't need to worry.
Best of luck

The best thing to do would have been to keep your old place informed of your health.
If you took your old job and didn't inform them of any health issues, this could be held against you.
