If I sign a form that says I ok that they are moving my mother from REHAB (for a stroke) to a nursing home am I responsible for her medical bills? Keep in mind that my mother walked out on me 20 years ago and I am only the one making the decisions because my grandmother can't & my aunt (her sister) won't.

Never sign a form unless you know exactly what it says; is the standard law of society (sorry for the preaching, but when you sign a contract you are assumed to have read and understood the agreement.

You can make the decisions for your mother's health care without assuming responsibility, but you need to make that clear. Tell the nursing home that you are estranged from your mother and that she walked out on you 20 years ago. You are willing to make decisions on her health care, but you refuse to take responsibility for any payments.

I am doing this only because no other person in my family will.

Make it clear, make it bold and make it now. Tell them if you have mistakenly signed a form saying that you assume responsibility for paying for anything then that was not explained to you and therefore it was done in bad faith, and I will refuse to honor that agreement.

IF THEY still try to stick you with the bill then you will need the assistance of a lawyer.

It depends on what it says in that form. It probably does not but nobody here will be able to give you sound advice without reading the form. Ask what happens if you don't sign it. She'll probably still get moved.

are you her power of attorney? my fiancee's father had a storke and he got moved from a rehabilatation center to a nursing home and we since had him moved out to where we live and I never had to take on medical bills for him so my response would have to be that you need to speak to the nursing director at the nursing home they are planning on moving her to
