Just because you choose a certain major now doesn't mean you have to stick with that forever. If you get into something and find you don't like it, you can change your major or even transfer to another school. I know it's not ideal to have to change later, but you shouldn't worry so much right now about choosing in the next two weeks what you want to do for the rest of your life.

That said, I would suggest that you stick with your Biochemistry major. That major should require a lot of Bio, Chem, Math, and Physics. You may want to stay informed about pre-med course requirements so that you can go that route if you decide to do so later. When you get to school, talk to your academic adviser about your options.

With a science major, your career path tends to head toward research. However, you can always consider other programs - pre-med, pre-vet, pre-law, etc. Or consider an engineering major (like biomechanical engineering) where the emphasis may be more on developing new things.

Hope this helps a little.

Take a breath. Relax.

You shouldn't have to declare a major before you even start school? I've never heard of that, just went through the school selection process with my daughter who is finishing her freshman year soon. My other daughter is looking at a career in medicine, the following came from a meeting with the adviser at UConn regarding this very subject.

For medical or dental school you aren't required to take any particular undergraduate program. You get your undergrad degree in anything providing you take the required pre-requisite courses for medical school and you must get a high grade on the MCAT test before medical school.

Many many many (as in most) kids change majors along the way. Few declare a major before their sophomore year.

My recommendation would be to study business as an undergraduate. A - it's easier than most of the sciences. B - if you do become an MD/DMD you will need the business grounding. Many Drs have no clue how to run a business. C - it gives you another avenue to go if you decide medicine isn't your bag.

Lemme guess...u want to go to med school cuz all ur parent's friends kids are successful doctors or dentists. Believe me kid....that's about 50% of UCLA (and about 80% of the Asian population), so you're in good company.

If u just want to get to med/dental school, its about GPA, so go with a challenging discipline that you feel you can excel in grade-wise. u probly also want to pick something that u can grow into in the very high possibility u dont get in.

...and whatever u do, do NOT do some cheesy volunteer job at the local hospital for humanitarian points. That just annoys admissions boards. Do something close to your own interest area, even if its less than earth-changing.

Lets start with logic.....number one which of the 2 would you prefer?
If you don't like working Saturday, Sunday or holidays then become a dentist.............they NEVER work then and a doctor does.
Here is a thought....You can change your major.............maybe become a math teacher.
My eldest grandchild did just that.! Oh.! and she was going to be a radiologist.
The most important thing is, you have to do what will make you satisfied with yourself.
Good Luck!
