That us leaving a job undone causes the death of thousands and allows dictators to rule and suppress...

I am ashamed that the near sightedness of so many and that their egos and pride get in the way of the principles the founding fathers laid. Do we not still seek freedom for all nations? Do we not believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all people?

I am ashamed of so many that call this war unjust. What is just? Was it just for Saddam to kill thousands? I am ashamed that we did not do something sooner.

But perhaps I am a fool to believe that people should care about the freedom of all. Perhaps I am alone in thinking that this war will bring about great good for the people of the middle east.

But whether I am alone or not, I still believe that all men should be free.

That critical thinking is fundamental when lives are at stake. Unfortunately this lesson still has not hit home.
I would suggest you watch the Fog of War.
It is basically a two-hour interview with Robert S. McNamara who was the secretary of defense during the onset of Vietnam. He purposefully doesn't talk about Iraq, but gives a candid insight into the thought process of the individuals who make these decisions.

I am on the side of America - old America. I like our symbols, the Christian base of our constitution, and the ideals that James Madison spoke about in the Federalist Papers. I think the "land of the free" has been exploited with immigrants that seek to take over America and not become Americans. The time has come to close our borders!

Obviously the Military learned nothing. They are bringing us to a halt with the same AK-47s and RPGs we faced 40 years ago. This despite trillions spent on weapons.

The lessons of Vietnam?

1.) Don't get involved in a civil war.

2.) Don't enter a tunnel that you can't see the end of.

3.) Don't allow allegiance to ideology allow you to become involved in a war.

There are three off the top of my head but there are many more.

Victory against the isalmo facists wherever they may be including their sympathizers/appeasers within the halls of Congress.

It taught SOME of the Americans that our leaders will go to war for reasons other than those spoken aloud. Other Americans have not learned that yet.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Even today, when Sen. Reed stands up and lies that there has been no change in the war strategy and that it is "failed", in Baghdad they cut back the curfew from 8 pm to 10 pm - because it is safer now.

The Vietnam war taught us that fighting a guerilla enemy that has popular support is a waste of time.

The Vietnam War taught us that uncle sam doesn't give a damn about vets.

The Vietnam War taught us that rich white kids yell from the sidelines and shout patriotic slogans all the while getting deferments and cushy national guard positions.

The Vietnam war taught us that the domino theory was BS.

The Vietnam Wat taught us that wars of offense were a dumb idea.

None.

Americans never learn from history. There can be no other possible reason for them to keep making the same horrific mistakes.
