I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I don't think college is all that! I know people who are living well financially and emotionally who have no college! I know other people who have two masters’ degrees and earn just above minimum wage. I don't think what you earn measures your success. No one will ever ask you what your grade point average was in high school! People will judge you on the way you treat them. (By the way, a good thing to think about is how God will judge you, and how will you judge yourself!!?)
That said, college can be a tool or a step in the direction of your dreams and goals. So is high school. So how do YOU want to make the most of it? Good grades can't hurt, that's for sure. You're obviously smart enough to get the good grades if you want to. The question is: do you want to? As a freshman, you have enough time to make the grade.
Admissions boards will also look at how you participate in life and community. What clubs would be of interest to you? Is there a volunteer opportunity where you could make a difference? How about being a peer counselor?
I also suggest you think about what direction you're interested in for the long run. Different schools have different strengths. Getting good grades will keep doors open and give you more options. Meantime, keep your heart and mind open and sharp.
Take care and Go for the gold! :o)

All is not lost because you have 3 c's. It is the final grade average for the class that counts towards your GPA. If you have a C and 3 A's in one class for the year it will average to a 3.5 which rounds to an A. If your grades are figured by percentages you'll need to do the math and figure out the least you can earn to bring it up and then aim higher. Needless to say it is easier to bring up a high C than a low one. Community service work counts for a lot. 4-H, Beta Club, Academic Team, Sports, Church Youth Group Activities are all looked upon favourably. Study but don't forget to enjoy your HS years a little also.

What college you get in to at this point depends on what grade you are in now. If it is the end of your high career, buckle and study so that you can at least get into a second rate school.( No IVY League for you) But you never know, if you are in extracurriculum activities and are making average grades, some colleges(even good ones) accept these students b/c they figure they are well rounded and can handle the pressures of school and extra activities.
*Tip* Join clubs: they look excellent on college apps and say alot about your character. The spaces filled in on a college app(Not just N/A) the better!!
Be blessed!!

Study hard for your college entrance exams. The SAT or ACT score will be looked at in combination with your high school GPA. The higher your test score, the lower your GPA can be. This also works the other way around. Most major state universities shouldn't have a problem though.

Jeez, my daughter did the same thing, and she got turned down by her favourite colleges. What she did not do was participate in extracurricular activities or sports. I suppose it's too late for sports, but you could join clubs in your last year. You wouldn't have to be more open to peoples' opinions than you were, just to join them. US admissions boards value activity over intelligence.
I don't know why, but US colleges tend to overvalue activities and race (you aren't anything they would count, are you?) over intellect.
Our place in the world is beginning to show the results of such policies.

3 Cs wont keep you out of most colleges, unless u want to go to ritzy private place. Join clubs to show that you are active in other things besides school. i was on my HS Knowledge Bowl team and it helped me get into the honors program at my college even though i had a couple Cs.
