I was trying to arrange a weekend away with my friends and there was lots of planning involved. But when I asked for the day off work, my boss said it wasn't possible. Even though she said it in a nice way, I got upset and couldn't stop myself from crying. I felt really overwhelmed by the whole situation.
Am I losing it?

I'm 30 btw and I know it was not even worth worrying about. I hadn't confirmed any bookings but I needed to make sure 4 things could happen simultaneously (book train tickets, book accommodation, order tickets for a gig and ask my friend if I could stay at her place for a day after the other girls left). I felt like an absolute idiot that such a small thing affected me like that. My boss didn't see me cry though, thank God.

Hi there,
awk no huni your not loosing it. That is a completely normal thing to do. Sometimes everything gets ontop of us and we try to find ways out of it..and perhaps your trip was your break from reality and it's pressures. You were probably stressed from having to organise so much stuff on your own and after all that for that dream, no matter how big or small to be shattered ...is hard...especially when it's something you were looking forward too. I think you sound like someone who is stressed to the eyeballs or maybe you have other issues going on but you NEED a break huni. What about going to your GP and stating what happened and how you feel..he/she maybe able to get you sick leave for stress related perposes. If that is not an option ask your boss for the nearest available time off and try to book your trip again but this time don't take on all the booking work...get your friends to help, it's their holiday too!
Best of luck! *virtual hugs*

Girl, please. Just because Aunt Flo won't be back for another 4 weeks, doesn't mean she hasn't left her luggage behind. Additionally, trying to plan the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in one day is more than anyone can handle. You put too many expectations on yourself, while you're at work, before you even knew that it was possible for you to go. Too much, too soon, too little time. Don't you know a weekend with your girls is supposed to be enjoyable and maybe relaxing, but definately a vacation from reality for a couple of days. Chill out. Make a list of things you need to do, then put those items in order of priority (for example, you can't plan C unless B is approved, and you still haven't confirmed A), then take one task at a time. Otherwise you'll be working your *** off to have a good time and be even more miserable than when the idea was still a twinkle in your eye. Ok, go grab some ice cream and your blankie and watch a little TV before bed, preferably a comedy show. Take care of yourself!

no you are just emotional! You've built up a lot of hope and energy mentally seeing yourself on holiday and imagining it so well that when she said NO she took it all away from you. You are in effect 'mourning' the loss of you much needed break by the sound of it! Try and work around it with her....first find someone else willing to cover you days/ nights if you can or if you are in the type of job that you can do that in......offer to do more overtime on your return....or ask to take your holidays now......I am sure if you have a good rest...leave it a few days....and then talk to her again she may feel like saying Yes!....but chose the time when she is calm the work place is calm and she's not sorted out major problems!!

You are not losing it. You are in over your head. Try asking someone who is going w/you to handle some of the planning. If you make a list a give people just one or a few things to do. They will help you out and everyone sees your are the one planning everything out. Remember this trip is to be fun. Take a deep breath and count to ten. You are doing fine and there is nothing wrong in asking for some help. When everyone has a great time. you will look back at this day a laugh. Hopefully.

No, you are not . You have obviously been looking forward to a week-end break, and it just did not occur to you that it would not be possible, especially as it was a week-end. I wonder what sort of work your boss has on at present, that can not afford you such a short time off work, that you could easily make up by working later during the week. Did you offer to make up the time? If not try asking him again, he must surely have seen how much it means to you to have this time off,

Maybe it's because you feel like your letting down your mates because of the planning and stuff and the fact you can't go. Its very overwhelming going away, even for a weekend (i don't actually know why, i supose its because you are out of your comfort zone) but maybe its due to the coming up to the time of the month and the pressure of trying to plan and it falling apart! Everything builds up and makes it worse and you need to cry once in a while and maybe this was just a reason for letting out your feelings.

Hey it's o.k to cry, I am 30 too, I still cry if things get to much, and it is an emotional time of the month after all. You had your heart set on going away with your friends and your boss put a big damper on that, I would be upset too. No your not losing it.

Time of the month?! I dont mean you must be having your period NOW, but perhaps its just that horrible week before, where you do get much more emotional and stressed at things which wouldnt normally stress you out as much.
Sometimes it takes someone else to actually realise it for you. You can be a bit too close to yourself to admit or recognise that you can be affected by hormones in this way.
Don't worry, once you get your period, you will stabilise.

Just take sit back and chill - either make yourself a cup of tea (!) or pour yourself a drink/and take a long soak in the bath. Are you doing all the arrangments and trying to do your work as well. Don't be afraid to ask one of your friends to help out - or did you volunteer???? Don't take on more than you can handle - you're only human. I hope it all turns out OK and you have a great time!

You have just had a lesson in growing up. Unless you had a vacation day coming you should not have even asked. Even with a vacation day coming they may not have someone to do your job while you were gone. Surely you are important enough to the job that your not being there would be missed.
Could you have asked earlier if they could arrange to let you have the day off ?
