#1- why did you add me to your contacts?

As to your question. We use surveillance cameras on our property to protect our family and neighbors. I would not use a camera to spy on another neighbor. If I had the money I would put one on the front porch, back yard, and the gangway, perhaps when I buy my own home. There are people in my neighborhood that do have cameras on the front porch and gangway. It doesn't bother me that they have them, as long as its not used directly on my butt. People even put them in their homes to watch what other family members are doing. To watch a babysitter or a cheating spouse or to watch their children. I think that is OK too as long as there in not one in the bathroom.

First, it IS LEGAL for you to record anything that is in the open and with the camera's being on your own property, then you are able to do what you would like to do. Many Americans have set up surveillance camera's for the reasons of security, to have a video witness on unruly neighbours and law breakers, or as a way to check on children playing and happens to catch some of the neighbour's yards too.
It all depends on the INTENT for the camera. As for me, I don't see a problem with people having camera's. There is no better witness then a recording of what transpired. And if you are worried about it, then you probably shouldn't be doing it....and if you are really worried about it, put up some window dressings like curtains/blinds/and such.

It depends on what the cameras see, but it is a violation of your privacy.

You need to ask the person or business to let you look at the pictures taken by those cameras. If they do not then you can threaten to sue them to get those images. Once you have determined the camera angles and what they can see of your property then you can take reasonable measures to avoid appearing on them. Reasonable measures include window treatments (shades and curtains). If say those cameras are looking at your hot tub then you have a problem and you can demand that the owner of those cameras do something about it. That can include taped inclusions on the camera lens to not cover your property or adjusting of the camera's themselves.

The important thing is to ask politely to see what those cameras are covering and to make a copy of that image on your own tape. Then you can see if you have a case or even a reason to object.
