Okay, I'm a minor and go on a six mile bike ride every day. Well, today there was this guy on the other side of the road with what looked like a flat tire (thank god for medians!), and he called to me asking for my help. When he asked I was past where he was on the other side of the street and I stopped and called back, "No, I can't help." And I kept going. Did I do the right thing?? I like to help people, and I kind of feel bad for leaving. Please, I'm freaking here!

No, you were right in your decision. There was probably not much that you could do anyway. You kept yourself safe and you kept going; that's totally fine in my book.

Hell yes you did the right thing!

I tell my daughter (also a minor) if an adult can't do whatever they're asking you to help with, what makes you think you can do it?

In what way does a grown man need a little girl to help change a tire?

You did fine girlie!

Adding to that: I edited to mention that Ellie has a real good point about keeping an eye out for him. Maybe you should vary your usual route, or the time or something? Like don't keep a pattern so you're easy to spot.

No one can really answer this for you. I don't think you should feel freaked out, if he obviously had a flat tire did you try to get somewhere and tell someone that he was there? I think that you did the right thing and if you called for help for him that is all that should be expected of you.

You definitely did the right thing. A grown up man has NO business asking a kid for help with something like a flat tire. So, please, loose the guilt feelings. And, you might want to keep his description and that of his vehicle in the back of your mind. You just never know, these days! In the hopefully unlikely event that something happens to someone else in the vicinity, you can say "I saw this guy" and describe him. He may be totally innocent, but..........maybe not, too.

You absolutely did the right thing. Better to be home and asking this question on Yahoo then being a statistic in tomorrow's 6:00 news if the guy had been a psycho. Let someone in a car with a cell phone stop and help him call for help. Don't second guess yourself - your instincts are always right.

Don't worry. I'm sure the guy found someone else to help...it's hard for me to help people that I don't know because it really makes you a little unsure of what will happen, not that everyone is bad on the side of the street, but still, you have to be cautious, and again, I'm sure the guy had no trouble getting the help he needed. Don't worry!

I think you did the right thing. Unfortunately for the majority of decent people, a few sick individuals mean that you can no longer be sure if it's safe to help out a stranger. I'm sure he will have got help from someone else, so no need to worry.

Yes Yes and Yes. There are so many young girls like you that are snatched
every day. Will you take advice from a 65 year old grandma. Please don't ride
alone any kind of distance like that. You don't stand a chance. Also, DON'T EVER
STOP AND ANSWER THEM. Keep going and get to a safe place. Sweetie, your
life is precious and your parents would feel such pain if they lost you. I'm speaking from experience. We lost our son 10 years ago, and I still get the
sad feelings. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

First off, stop freaking out. It's not a crime to not help a strange man, you did the right thing. If something was telling you not to help him out, then you did the right thing by not helping him. It's great you want to help people, but with all the freaks out there its hard to trust people

Good Call...any adult male would not ask the help of a minor female.....GOOD ONE! You keep an eye out for him cause he may just know that you ride by every day....do you have to do this by yourself?

You definitely did the right thing! Being a minor, you simply cannot be too careful these days. I congratulate you for being so safety savvy and being polite at the same time! WAY TO GO!
