Hi Emily, unfortunately Goldfish & Bettas cannot live happily together but he seems like he needs some TLC & certainly sounds like he'd thank you for giving him a clean home! Maybe you could adopt him anyway & he could live next to your Goldfish? My advice is join the Betta group below, tell them your problem & they'll give you good advice to keep him happy! Maybe you'd also like to join our Goldfish group & tell us about your 3 & maybe post some pictures of them too? The link is also below-hope to see you there!

I'm sorry, they are not compatable. Betta's need the water to be at 80 degrees F or else they become more likely to get disease. Also, if the gold fish are smaller and plain, they may look like a female betta to your male betta. If they are fancy type, they may look like a male betta to your betta. Either wouldn't be good.
Bettas are very active when kept in the proper conditions. Get a five gallon tank with a filter and a heater. The betta will love ya for it!

no - for various motives. yet in all risk the main importatn reason is goldfish are a coldwater fish. Bettas are a tropical fish. they'd desire to have lots warmer water temps than the goldfish. they do no longer require an identical situations to thrive. as a result, they are in a position to't be tankmates.

No, first reason is that different water temperatures for each organism, difficult for them to properly perform their metabolic functions. And secondly, NOOOOO, bettas are beautiful, yet very very territorial, they will attack and eat the poor goldfish... keep them separate... even alone, they attack their own reflection...

nope. Bettas are highly aggresive (especially males) and will kill other fish in their tank. My betta is in a tank that has a mirror like wall on one side and he always lunges for it, thinking it's another fish, but instead bangs his head on the glass. Hope that helps!

Short answer, no they can't. They have very different temperature requirements and you couldn't keep both happy at the same time.
