We drove out Saddam, he's dead. If there ever were any WMD's they don't have them anymore. So isn't that winning the war?

Why do people consider leaving a loss to life liberty and American values? We eventually left France, Germany and Japan (Although we have a base there.)

So what if we leave and they have a civil war, we had our wars on American soil, civil and Revolutionary war. Would you want someone to stop those conflicts? What if France stopped our "Terrorist Fanatics" i.e. the founding fathers.

Why can't we let other countries sort their own identity out? There is no way we could actually "make" them be a democracy like ours. They could start out that way and take a left or right at any time.

So what is the point of all this? They will weed out undesirables if they want them out. Or like now, they'll allow them to be in their country. Obviously someone wants them there.

What's the point of all this when nobody knows how they will act the day after we leave.

Aren't they in a Life or Death situation just being there? That makes no sense.

This is not a funding question, this is a fundamental reason for even still being there.

I find your question and opinion very interesting and well thought out. It was almost as if I had written it myself, although, I am not nearly as eloquent, but because you have nailed my thoughts exactly!!! As far as I am aware, also, we have done what we were told that we were over there for. It is time to send our troops home, let the Iraqi people act as adults and get their ducks in a row as they are free to do now. I may be too cynical, but there is a deeper reason we are still there spilling blood and money like water than the American people are or probably will ever be privy to.

Joe Biden says that we should get out of the Iraqi cities and secure the Iraqi borders. We should get the Iraqis to form a confederation of 3 states with a weak central government that will distribute the oil revenues. Each state would police itself, like the Kurds do now. The Sunnis state wouldn't tolerate Al-Qaida. The Shia state wouldn't tolerate Al-Qaida. And the Kurds already don't tolerate Al-Qaida. The Kurds are showing everyone how to do it, but Bush doesn't seem to want to listen.
Biden is right and the Bush supporters say that the Democrats don't offer any plan for victory in Iraq.

Nobody knows, however the point is that we have only provided the Iraqi people with a chance at freedom from a sadistic ruler and a chance for a democracy if they want it. It was shown that they do by going to the polls and getting to vote for what they want. They formed their new government, and now is not the time to cut and run before that newly elected government can stand on its feet. If they can stand by themselves and we leave and they elect to go back to a dictator form of government then that is up to them. We are not controlling what they do, they do! We have only provided them with the opportunity! And Bidens plan is worse than what's going on there now! Besides he probably plagerized the plan from someone else!

The reasoning keeping us there is that if our troops were removed, there would be a massive genocide of Sunnis by the Shia majority. If we didn't create the conditions where this would happen by removing the (dictatorial, but somewhat functioning) government, then we wouldn't be likely to intervene. However, we created this mess, and feel the obligation to clean it up (mostly).

Whether this is correct or not is a subject for further debate. Talk among yourselves...

if it were up to me...the war would have been handled differently. send the troops in, take out saddam and his entire regime...then leave an tell the iraqi people...build a good government or we will return to throw it over again...maybe that may have been the right way, because nobody is good at occupying another country especially when you have crazy extremist in the middle of things...

but givin that that didnt happen or isnt ever going to happen...we ought to leave them to their own...we can never fully do what we should do and thats turn them into a successful democracy...

so if civil war erupts there and thousands upon thousands die...we can turn around and say to the world..."you see what happens when all you tree huggers want peace...death is what happens; you should have supported us, and helped us."

Yes, we won the military invasion (your choice on the legality of it), and proceeded through the bungled management of the Esteemed Mr. Bush and His Administration to lose the post war rebuilding.

Isn't this supposed to be a war on terror? If so then the war will never be won. Terrorism is so widespread, not only in the middle east.

At this point, it's all about not having to admit that they made a horrible mistake.

Taking out saddam might've been a noble cause - but it could've been done without having to spend nearly 1/2 trillion and kill and injure tens of thousands of US soldiers.

Screw this administration and everyone in it!
