I think it's an excellent idea you always want to work with your enemies. I don't know why the white house feels this is a bad idea. Syria might be friends with terrorists but we need to educate and talk to our enemies.

Considing the fact that the USA has a DISfunctional State Department who's JOB it is to talk to people who are neither friends nor actively fighting the USA.... sure. Syria is an interesting case since somehow they are a place the CIA "renditions" people it wants to torture, but is not permitted to or chooses not to itself. Why would Syria be soooo amenable in doing CIA dirty work in the "war on terror" and yet be part of the "axis of evil" itself?? It doesn't make sense to me.

You've hit on the basic difference between Democrats and Republicans these days. Democrats seem to understand the value and necessity of talking to your enemies - it used to be that Republicans valued that too. But then along came George Bush, who I doubt can spell the word "diplomacy." Speaker Pelosi knows better these days than to just accept the word of George Bush and his spin machine he calls an Administration. She did the right thing by going to Syria, and the Middle East in general to see for herself what the real deal is. The stink of corruption, cover-up, and incompetence is so strong coming from the White House that she literally cannot trust her President to be forthcoming about the reality of the Middle East problem. She got tired of the spin and went there to find out for herself how we can start to repair some of the damage after this demagogue finally and thankfully leaves office. Good for her, it's good to see the Democrats showing some strength and flexing their muscles. Poor George Bush is going to have to face the fact, like it or not, that his time of dictatorship in Washington is over.

Sure, let her go there and live with an average Syrian family. Let her have to live the life they do - a woman endowed to whatever any male tells her to do in a muslim dominated society. Let her learn what freedom there and freedom here mean. Let her listen to the anti-American rantings of the Islamic facists. Let her hear what they want to do to us just for being Americans. Keep her be there at least a year, not in a luxury hotel, no fancy food, no guards, no western garb. Let her live in a world of constant military presence. Maybe she would use the small portion of her brain that is not purely designated to power grabbing and see the bigger picture - that we are against an entire culture that hates us.

Talk is always good. I hope those people from the 19th century who rule the Whitehouse today learn something from her.

I love to see all the neocons crying and gnashing their teeth on this one!!!! I believe that this administration has been wrong not to at least meet with Syria, Iran, Cuba, and North Korea. What do we have to lose in talking with them!! If it saves one life it's worth it. Bravo Ms. Pelosi for smearing some egg in the face of the Bush Administration!!!

GREAT QUESTION.

Every other President in the last 40 years visited Syria at some point.

Why is the media ignoring the fact that THREE REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN VISITED THE LEADER OF SYRIA JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO?

THE FRICKING PREZ DID NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT, DID HE!

Up to a point. When they openly start raining bombs down on us, then it's time to take them out.

For now, there is no risk in just forming decent relations. Bush went and called them part of the "axis of evil", whatever that meant, right off the bat. What a diplomat, huh? Way to form alliances and make friends.

Ms. Pelosi is so full of herself since she became Speaker, that I cannot stand to see or hear her anymore.
She is not President. She is not a policy maker. She doesn't know anything about Syria.
She is cavorting with the enemy. I think her behavior is traitorous.
She has so overstepped her bounds that she needs to be knocked down a peg.
Liberals...YUK!

There are enemies and there are enemies.

That idiot in Venezuela comes here and calls Bush the Devil - stupid but he didn't hurt anyone.

The Syrians fund mass-murder. It's like negotiating with Al Capone. No, it's worse.
