I was answering someone else's question, and my answer got me to thinking this:

Education is believing what we are told so that we all believe the same thing at the same time, thus making us free thinkers.

And in America here, any time I have a thought that might suggest I am not free--I am told I am being brainwashed. And of course, to free my mind I believe in my being brainwashed and correct it, thus allowing me to be free again to think as the majority does; because the majority is free.

Freedom hurts the brain a little bit, can anyone suggest a remedy.

Any deviation from the education, or as some of us prefer to call it, programming, is quickly seized upon by the masses and the person who has demonstrated free thinking is either reprogrammed, destroyed, or ostracized. They call it brainwashing when one begins to think for themselves because that is exactly what it is, washing your mind of the programming. They are not interested in teaching us, they want to control us. How else could they convince so many of us to blindly work our lives away? The evidence that education is programming came to me when I was told to do math problems as they were prescribed instead of doing them in my head and coming up with the correct answer. Me knowing how to work the problem was not as important as me working it the way they wanted me to.

indoctrination vs. education

For relativists, they are the same thing.
For absolutists, the difference is that indoctrination may or may not be a method of transmission of Truth, while education on the other hand, would not be education were it not for the reality of its Truthfulness.

Education is important precisely because it provides us with the tools to progressively align ourselves with the highest Truths. It enables us to better discern between reality and perception.

Catechesis is teaching people what they must believe.

Logic and philosophy show them how to believe the truth better.

What's the use of getting an education if we aren't learning what's true? Education is the pursuit of truth and widsom.

Education sucks. If I could go back, I would never have gotten my doctorate professional degree.
