You can. Compact Flourescent bulbs don't get as hot as normal incandescent bulbs. The problems are typically related to their shape and the electronic ballast circuitry built into the bulb base. I usually try it anyway as most work fine assuming it will fit into the fixture.

Good Luck!

THE HEAT OF THE FLUORESCENT BULBS WOULD NOT BE A GOOD THING FOR A CLOSED LIGHT. BUILDING UP HEAT COULD SHATTER THE LIGHT FIXTURE.

I guess because you can not open them? Always buy a fixture you can open to replace the bulb.

your nice. as long because of the fact the luminare is ul listed, it's going to be waiting to stand up to the warmth output of a one hundred watt incandescent. in view that cfl's placed out much less warmth, ther're somewhat isn't a controversy. ~while some thing is "thoroughly encased" that sounds like it could be an explosion evidence (hermetic) luminare.
