The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More - the instincts of children should be trusted, people are cruel and suprising
The Divine Comedy: The Inferno - man falls, walks through hell, ascends to heaven
Dubliners - stories intertwine that follow a town from new life and death. The human experience is at its utmost, a trivial and overwhelimingly significant pursuit.

1) Cry of the Peocock by Gina B. Nahai-- It is historical fiction about the life of jewish people in the Middle East in the 1800. It starts with an old woman in a prison and then goes through all of her relatives that have grown up and how they led their lives. It is incredibly written and very facinating.

2) Roots by Alex Haley-- Haley tells the story of how his ancestors came across to the U.S. from Africa and were sold into slavery. It is a very compelling story and amazing how he could trace his ancestry back to Africa.

3) Wicked by Gregory Maguire-- This is a prequil to The Wizard of Oz. It tells about the Wicked Witch and her childhood and how she became the Wicked Witch of the West. Maguire does a great job of looking at good and evil in new perspectives. It is fantasic. I recommend the musical as well.
