they were planning on making one a few years ago and trying to get brad pitt to play him.
but because of the iraq war and strong anti american sentiment devoloping in europe and asia they put a hold on the film because they thought it would tank in the foreign markets making it seem more profitable to do movies based on other characters.
alot of people (myself included) think this whole death nonsense is just a ploy to make the character more popular to try and get the potential film franchise back on track.

I don’t know about Caption America… is that a super hero for hearing-impaired people…?
(sorry! I just couldn’t resist.)
Supposedly the Captain America movie was already in the planning stages when they shot him. Some say that it is a marketing ploy to spark interest in which Captain America it will be: the one and only, original, true-red-white-and-blue Steve Rogers or some phoney that takes over the costume to besmirch his good name until they can revive him.
Personally, I am a bit surprised. I would not have thought that Marvel would do such a thing, but, alas, I guess they are only in it for the money.

IMDB says there is one scheduled to be released in July 2009, but that could change. Plus, there was already a Captain America movie, from 1991. Not sure if the 2009 one is because of his death within the comic.

He's not dead. Nobody stays dead in comic books, it's a rule. He'll be back in time to lead the big final battle against Iron Man (or whoever is pulling his strings or is the villain next year) and restore America to freedom etc.
