All the alkaline metals will turn white when exposed to oxygen, these include lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium and cesium without being heated. The alkaline earth metal (magnesium, calcium, etc) will also react ith oxygen to form white oxides, but these require that the metal is heated.

My guess is lithium. Look it up. It could be another element in the same column of the periodic table. Potassium, sodium?
