In the U.S., most of the time holidays that are strictly religious in nature are not national holidays, since that would conflict with the first amendment to the U.S. constititution. I suppose the one exception is Christmas, but that has become a largely secular holiday for many people. Good Friday is definitely religious however, and as such, cannot be mandated as a holiday by the government.

It is a national holiday, but employers are not required to give you off for any holiday. Also we are NOT a secular nation although some narrlow minded intollerant athiests would like you to think otherwise. There is also no such thing as Seperation of Church and State, its another liberal myth and its about time those who keep using it as an excuse learn that.

Because there isn't a national religion. Good Friday is a Christian day of importance.

Probably b/c not everyone is Christian. Holidays like Christmas and Easter are holidays b/c they have been secularized. However, I don't think employers can discriminate against you if you choose not to work on Good Friday. You probably have to use your own vacation time though.

Good Friday is a Christian holiday. Seperation of Church and State forbids it.

not a very positive thing, plus, not everyone is christian! And nowadays, we have to be all high and mighty and tolerate and not offend anyone! Simple as that!

Because we are a secular nation, not a religious one, by law.
