What different types of wood can you build a house with and is cheap?

I have a science fair project ad I need to make a minature box made out of wood. I am trying to test which one can insulate the most sound, but I need to know what kind of wood to use in the first place. please help. I need some wood thatis cheap.

White pine or yellow pine would be good for you for 2 reasons. One, it's fairly inexpensive and two, it's not as dense as hardwoods so it will not conduct sound and vibrations as much as say, oak, would.
