You can dry disk clean up or manually delete programs and files that take up a lot of space but you don't use anymore. You can save these things on a back up drive or something and leave your computer with more room to perform operations

You have to free up some space on the hard drive. This is only one way to do that. You have to get rid of some of the data files and programs on the hard drive.
Begin by copying your music, videos, pictures, etc. off the computer and on to either CDs or DVD.
Then look through the programs you have on your computer and begin to uninstall any and all of them that you can live without. When you real starting looking you will probably find all kinds of junk you can do without.
Disk cleanup will do absolutely NOTHING for free up space. All it does is clean up temporary files the Windows makes while running. You can clean them, but as soon as you reboot, they all come back. So it will not get you any permanent space.
Once you have cleaned out everything you can, do a Disk Defragment. It will probably NOT make a lot of difference in space, but it will rearrange files into the areas you have cleared and make your computer run faster.

If you have a Windows XP on your system, then try to delete the Restore folders from the System Volume Information folder.I do that when I have less space on my harddisk. This folder contains the files for the Restore points that were created when any system changes had taken place.I guess you can delete those folders...It must be named as 'RP1.....RP2...and so on.you can just leave the last folder/latest folder. If you are convinced, then only try this!

You should delete any files from your computer that you don't need anymore. Make sure you delete it from the Recycle Bin too.
