Sometimes it doesn't hurt to have more than one program, since if you were to get a virus, and the first one didn't catch it, then you would have a backup.
Make sure they aren't both actively running though, because some view other anti-virus/anti-spyware programs AS viruses. Plus they lag your machine out something horrible. I usually don't have any anti-virus software on my machine at all. I use adaware personal (free) from lavasoft.com. I avoid e-mails from people I don't know, I run occasional free scans, and whenever I've found anything, I can usually find a free program to automatically remove it, or step by step instructions for manually removing it.

More often than not, No, because they often conflict with one another and use up too much system resources.
However, there are two that will run together and won't exhaust your resources. They are AVG 7.5 Free Edition, and avast! 4.7 Home Edition (this is free too).
You can get the link below. When you get to the site, scroll down to Free Anti-Virus Software.

No. Not a good idea because the two can conflict with each other.
Norton and McAfee are notorious for conflicting with each other and any other anti-virus on the machine, causing breakdown, errors, and wanting to delete one another.
Now, the same does NOT apply for spy scanners (anti-spy) such as Spy Bot, AdAware, Spy Doctor and such. You can have as many of those as you wish.

It is okay, but keep in mind that *some* antivirus programs will not allow others to run in (or be installed with) others present. For example, Kapersky demands that Norton be removed before you can install Kapersky. Also some antivirus software may treat the antivirus definitions of the other antivirus software as viruses and cause damage...Aside from that, the plus is that one antivirus package may catch things that the other misses.

Oh, do not have two even installed at once! If you look at the instructions, it will tell you to get rid of one. Make sure you have the one that is the most effective installed and running always. You can install a seperate firewall (I prefer Steganos) it is the best.

You can run two or more, but it is highly not recommended, as they will reduce each other's efficiency, making each individual one less useful
