A transvestite is someone who dresses as a woman but is a man. A shemale is someone who has had some augmentation surgery to look like both a man and woman, usually breast enhancement. A transsexual is someone who has had an operation to become a woman and would now have a vagina and have sex. Usually, a transsexual always felt like the other sex, and the operation just changes the outside to match the inside. Having the operation means that the person has had a lot of counseling and has been living as the opposite sex for at least two years before the operation.

a shemale is where a dude gets breast implants so looks like a girl but has his manly bits downstairs still, he will dress as a women but be a man below.
a transexual is someone who changes to become the opposite sex. They go through a lot of therapy and then finally change their body via surgery. this can be m2f or f2m changes. yes they can have sex but obviously cant have kids unless they froze their sperm or donated it preop.

First, a transvestite is someone who dresses in the opposite genders clothing. They dont identify soley as that gender, but merely dresses as that gender at times. Shemale is someone who feels as both genders and identifies as both. That person might have surgery or might not. It depends on that person.

Second, if a transgendered(or transexual) MTF(male-to-female) has the sex reasignment surgery, they can infact have sex. The vagina that is created is functional as a biological woman. Depending on how the surgery goes and depending on the location of the nerve endings, they can even orgasm. (btw, when refering to a transgendered female, or MTF, it is correct to call them a woman or female...opposite goes to FTM, Female-to-Male refering to them as male...).
