Get a loft in Downtown. Bunker Hill (near the junction of the 110 and the 101) is on the up and up. The renovations in Downtown are going quite well, and I think you can get a good place right now for your budget. The buildings are attractive and have colorful histories. All-new interiors and reinforcements, too! Lots of yuppies out here. Your office is probably close by, since it seems a lot of firms are moving away from the over-priced Westside.

I live in the SGV less than 10 miles from Downtown, and I pay $870 for a MASSIVE studio (my place is as big as many 2brdm flats). There are 1 bdrms here going for $900. But I wouldn't recommend it as I have been burglarized twice in 3 months.
