i recently interviewed for a job as a ballroom dance instructor, and some of the questions that were asked seemed very strange to me. could anyone let me know if these were appropriate?
1) where do you live? house or apartment? 2) do you have roommates or live alone? 3) how long have you known each other? (the roommate) 4) how long have you lived together? 5) is your roommate a boy or a girl?
this whole section of the interview seemed very strange to me, and she was writing down all my answers right in front of me. then she also asked what year i graduated from high school. does that really matter? i indicated on there that I do have a high school diploma. can anyone help?

It may be that they were looking for a particular type of person, or that they were concerned about how you will represent them. Think about how politicians lives are scrutinized - being the president is still just a job but we want to know everything about our politicians.

In the future, you can ask an interviewer if there is a reason they're looking for this information. It may even show that you are an intelligent candidate and help you get the job! You are not required to answer anything that an interviewer asks, but be advised that refusing to answer interview questions might lose you the job.

All the personal info - like if you live in a house or apt and who is your roommate - they're not supposed to ask. My guess they were nosing around to find out if you get alone with other people and if you are sociable. However, the way they did it is rather inappropriate. You might have asked what are they trying to learn about you with this question. They'd probably ask a different question in responce. What year you graduated from High school seems irrelevant to the position you were applying, however is a valid question for an interview. General level of education matters, because the way you think and the way you talk to potential customers would be different. Hmmm, on the second thought - this is their indirect way of finding out how old you are. See, they are not supposed to discriminate on basis of age, so they ask this question insead of how old you are.

Remember - on the interview, it is not only them who are selecting, but also you are deciding if you like them to be your employer.

Definitely sounds fishy. She cannot ask you your age, but she can ask you when you finished high-school. Those are some pretty personal questions that you should not have answered, especially the questions about your roommate and if you live alone.
Asking if you rent or own a home is a borderline question, but they are probably just gauging your level of financial stability.

After analyzing by the different solutions, i've got self belief that individuals might desire to understand that many experienced interviewers can ask those questions with out certainly asking them. i replaced into taking some instructions for the period of a school hiring era, and because between the instructions replaced into HR, no longer basically have been pupils asked to bypass to with applicants, we've been additionally given all of the questions that should or ought to no longer be asked. considered one of the different professors were doing this form of hiring for years, and taught us some approaches to get the candidate to chat approximately their very own lives with out outright asking. as an occasion, to get them to chat approximately little ones, he might point out faculties interior the section. maximum folk might on the instant initiate speaking approximately how previous their teenagers are and then point out their companion and what they do, etc. If the candidate volunteers information, it truly is going to become honest sport.
