If it is a larger dog like a lab I break up the amount of food that they should eat into either 2 or three portions and then feed them usually right before or after i eat my meals/. As for the smaller dogs they tend to be less likely to overeat so i just put a bowl of food out in the morning and let them eat it throughout the day whenever they get hungry (asuming that they are eating dry kible).

I free feed my dogs, they all have different eating preferences, some eat more in the morning some like a late night meal. Also they amount of food differs the time of the year. If their bowls are empty I refill them. I do not have a problem with them being overweight, unless a dog has an eating disorder he will eat only as much as he needs.
Dog food labels are often times misleading, working dogs need far more than the manufacturer recommends.

How often should I feed my pet?
If fed dry food, you can leave the cat / kitten food out and allow your pet to eat when it wants. If your cat / kitten overeats, or if you feed canned food, divide the food into equal portions and feed adults twice daily and kittens at least three times daily. Since free choice feeding complicates housebreaking, it is not recommended for canines.
Dogs should be fed once or twice daily. Puppies should be fed 2 - 3 times daily. If your dog or puppy hasn't eaten after five minutes, remove the food until the next regular mealtime.

Depends on the age and size of animal. Deep barreled chest dogs sometimes suffer from a colic like syndrome due to inhalation of food so to speak so two smaller meals for dogs over 9months or self serve. For puppies 4 times a day at first and gradually get to twice a day at 9months and once a day for smaller boned breeds or under active dogs.

I free feed my dogs. They have food available to them at all times. I do this because I have large dogs and free feeding reduces the risk of bloat. When they were puppies I usually fed 4-5 times daily, small meals this was to help with potty training.

One meal daily, but I also use a self-feeding dish. The dogs get fed wet food in the evening and maybe a treat and can nibble on dry food all day.

I feed my Tibet Spaniel 2 times daily...In the morning and at night...I feed it proper food like Pedigree that is not on recall, but I still only feed her dry Pedigree because you never know what might happen.....So thanks for posting the question I think many people deserve to know how much a dog should be fed daily...!!!=)

a dog will only eat so much a day, you can have a self feeder, the dog knows how much he or she can handle,my dog was on a self feeder and does better at that than going to try to feed them because then they are always wondering is it time to eat like they would be bugging you this way they know they have food.

Depends how much you give them and how much treats. If your dog is overweight then i would give him or her 2 meals and ocasional treats. If not then probably 2 times but a small meal inbewteen.
