Im not going to say Jamaicans are ignorant but their society is not as advanced as others lets say in Europe. They are not taught to respect orientation, so when you are brought up a certain way its hard to change them. So one day when their country starts to develop, their society will become more tolerant of others and once they understand genetics and gay life they will protect gay people. As far as am concerned Jamaica doesnt protect gay citizens.

Different cultures are never wrong to feel the way they do. God gave us free will and the power of choice. If they don't like gays.... they don't like gays. A lot of people don't. Matter of fact... No place on Earth is more anti gay than the U.S. Deal with it. Back in the day people didn't use their sexual preference to get things they just didn't qualify for... jobs.. power... advancement..etc.
Gay bashing goes on here too. Yes... even in the military. All you can do is stand on your own beliefs and fight for your own causes. I think nothing of the article. Ignorance is everywhere.

Yes and no. I definitely don't condone anyone beating someone up just because they are gay. But, they are pretty much taught that hatred from a very early age. My man is Jamaican and he's pretty homophobic. Not to the point of voilence. But, he does kinda act like gay people are a lesser quality of people, which bugs the hell out of me. Hopefully he'll learn a little more tolerance.

Jamaica is a small island in the vast ocean of the world, thus it is insignificant to me. I had friends who wanted to go to the Sandals Resort but we opted for the more civilized Barbados. Jamaica may be beautiful but the underbelly is both primitive and ignorant. It is not a destination I would ever waste my time with. As for them being wrong, who cares, that said, I'd be interested to know what their reaction would be to a black man being beaten........
Edit: I say Heir Herman has piped up and again he shows why he should not be taken seriously at all. You have to love bigots and myths, so entertaining.

Gays are a scapegoat for the raging AIDS epidemic in the country. in factor of fact those all and sundry is saved uneducated about the ailment and a thanks to guard themselves. It mainly because the authorities needs to keep the tourism market good and would not choose this epidemic to discourage individuals from travelling. so that they sweep it lower than the carpet. do not imagine for a minute that African countries are the merely countries with this mission.

Anti-gay to the point of physically hurting someone? Damn straight. No one should do that. I understand they may not like certain things, but you don't, ever, attack someone because they're different from you.

My dear friend and her lover, (both late 20's) were raped and stabbed to death on a beach in the Carribean. Its not a safe place for gays and lesbians.

Well that's stupid since gay people usually have more money to just waste on stupid crap. Since we don't normally have children. I will cross going to jamaica off my list of places to go too. It just shows people are stupid everywhere, when you don't understand something/someone, you shouldn't have to hurt it/him/her to get a better understanding.

The jamaicans have made it clear thatthey don't want gays around. This is a backlash resulting from agressive gay " sex tourists" coming to their contry and making a nuisance of themselves. If gays don't want to get bashed in Jamaica, they should leave the jamaicans alone.
