No minimum numbers, and no guarantees on the high-side, it's a combination of that and the rest of your life.

Reference material though...
At my freshman orientation, the speaker had those with >4.0/4.0 (thanks to weighted credits, etc.) raise their hands, and I'd estimate that nearly 10% of the hands went up. He asked people to stand if you were ranked in the top 1% of your high school class, and it was hard to find anyone that wasn't standing (although there certainly were many). Talk about humbling...

I'd say 3.8 or better is a good rule, but if you're awesome at other things, or do a lot of volunteer work, apply anway, it won't hurt!

I think at most schools there is no minimum. Sure, your chances will be very low if you don't have a high gpa, but you're not automatically disqualified from being accepted. If you want to know what the majority of admitted students had just look up the school, then you can see how your compares. And also, just having a certain gpa isn't the ticket to acceptance. Many people with 4.0s are rejected.

As previously stated, none of these colleges or universities publish such figures. However, Princeton received applications from over 6,000 students with 4.0's this year, a number which is similar to the other schools' numbers. It is interesting to note that less than 2,000 students are accepted to Princeton yearly.

I would be safe and stick with at least a 3.8 or above for any type of legitimate shot at any of these institutions.

No schools publish the minimum standards. However, the Princeton Review web site gives lots of admissions information.

At Princeton, 75% of the admitted students have 2100 or better on their SATs. 94% were in the top 10% of their graduating class, and 100% were in the top half. The average GPA is 3.85.

The other schools you mention have similar numbers.
