You don't need anyone but God and yourself to be saved. Certainly your preacher can help you if you are unsure of what to do. As to whether you can depend on him you can ask God to help you decide that. You say you put a lot of faith in your preacher, but your faith should be in God. If your preacher is a true Christian that is where his faith is. :)

The only person that can truly save yourself is you and God not a preacher. When you ask for forgiveness or just praying it is not responsible for you to go to a preacher or a priest just talk to God directly where you sit. Really you should know this a preacher can be good for a shoulder to cry on and maybe some added support. Though God is the one that will give you the guidance and love, and strength you need to overcome anything. Really talk to God pray to him ask him for help he listens and you'll know when he has answered your prayers. Ask for his healing hand upon you
call a prayer line they can also help with depression, loss, and any other thing you may be going through.
God Bless and Good Luck!

Your preacher can give you ideas on how to handle certain situations, give you avice on how to seek God, but he cannot do it for you. Your preacher will always be there if you need someone to talk to & don't feel that your family or friends will understand. As for being saved, you have to do that on your own. You must ask Jesus to come into your heart, to forgive you for your sins, & to show you how to live for him. Being saved is a wonderful feeling. I am reading a book right now called "the Purpose Driven Life" this book is a 40 day thing, you read a chapter a day for 40 days. This book helps you realize your purpose in life, why you are here on this earth. It has helped me alot.

No man can go to the father except through the son not the preacher.....Yes technically you can and are suppose to be able to depend on him....but as far as your souls salvations is concerned you must confess with YOUR mouth and BELIEVE in YOUR heart. I think a good relationship with your pastor is essential but your relationships with God is what sustains you from day to day. God said I'm not a man I can not lie, I know the plans for your life. I say that to say this at the end of the say your preacher is just a man he puts his pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us. and has to make it into the kingdom of God just like you do.Put your faith in God.

I'm glad you have a good relationship with your preacher. But your faith ultimately needs to rest in God and His son, not man. Man is fallible. Even those in clergy. A preacher's job is to help guide you on the path to salvation. I believe that salvation can only come from God. You don't need a man between you and God. You can contact Him directly. Having a solid earthly guide and teacher (your preacher) though, is a wonderful thing as long as you keep who it is you are worshipping in perspective.

Only Jesus saves from sin. Now if your preacher is born-again himself and has studied the Bible for any length of time, you can trust him to show you the way to accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord. Like all people, though, preachers are human. They can make mistakes like anyone else, but what is great is that Jesus forgives and saves them too. I suggest that you try concentrating on Jesus and think less about your preacher's human faults. We all are sinners saved the same way. Turn your eyes toward Jesus and you will find the way to Him.

What if you couldnt be saved no matter what you did? Would you worry about it for the rest of your life? What if there were other things besides the bible to read about and they dont mention a "salvation of the soul" concept but bettering yourself so others can see you better and that you'd be better in the eyes of God and yourself.
Humans will always fail you..trust not others. not even a preacher. What if he died tommorrow? He wouldnt be able to help you then would he?

He can lead you, but it's ultimately up to you for your salvation. You decided for yourself if you want to be saved, your preacher just shows you the way. As far as depending on your peacher... you can but realize he is a man who is capable of letting you down. So don't idolize him and think he can do no wrong, but you can look to him for advice and counsel.

Preachers are called to help guide us in truth and love. The way to be saved is through personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Nobody can do it for you...you decide in your own heart to surrender to Jesus.
