There are so many things to consider for a personal business website.

If you have no experience, then at least find someone who does that can help you.

Free sites are not going to help you with a personal business website.

Three of the biggest things to keep in mind:
1) are you going to accept personal information via a form such as credit cards? If so, then how will you keep your data secure?

2) Getting your site discovered by search engines and optimizing the placement (SEO)

3) Putting out internet ads, and tracking the success of the Ad's so you can maximise your profit.

If you are not comfortable with these three, you won't ready to do this on your own. (Keep in mind that all of these require programming on the server - so, you have to find a server that supports the language you are going to write in. Not to mention a database to store information....)

I've been working with website development for nearly 5 years. If you want to ask me more detailed questions and some guidance steps, then feel free to email me directly: irishtek@yahoo.com

First thing you will need is a host of where you will have your web site.

For novice web site creators, some good ones are www.geocities.com and www.angelfire.com.

I would suggest getting a HTML editor like Microsoft Front page or Dreamweaver so that it will do the HTML coding for you.

From there once you have your website built you can sign up for affiliate programs where you put there banner on your site and they will pay you for every person that either clicks on that ad or buys something from them.

Start with one of the free sites which offers as "web design wizard" to walk you through it. Such as Yahoo's http://geocities.com or Lycos' http://tripod.com

They will walk you through the initial set up in about 15-20 minutes. After that, play around, run the tutorials they provide to learn more, and in no time you will be a web pro.

If it is for a personal business, you will probabaly want a .com name, so I wouldn't use any of the free hosts listed above. Go to http://www.godaddy.com/ They are the cheapest host. They also have design templates to make things easy. That is who I use and I haven't had any problems.

use yahoo geocities free then after you get used to uploading and placing pics/text.go to www.homestead.com they are the same as geocities but i think its more professional..more space and bandwidth.those things you must have.because the more people visit your site the more bandwidth it uses..its $10.00 a month at homestead..very cheap and very reliable./
