You bet. Just be careful whenyou pick the fish to put in with a betta. You need to pick smaller, very peaceful fish that don't nip fins!

With my Betta I have an golden apple snail, and a black apple snail, make sure you don't have the two of the same color snails if you do they mate like crazy. If their different colors they won't mate. My Betta get along with them. the rule of thumb if you put a pretty fish, with a long tails Betta's will fight, if it a really ugly fish the wont bother it. I also have two African dwarf frogs with my Betta they get along just fine. Also don't believe what some one tells you about neon tetras You CAN NOT I repeat You can not add those with a male Betta because of the bright colors the have. I had a male Betta that eat every one I had and one week later the Betta died.

Most community fish can mix with a male Betta. Just be cautious of mixing fish with long fins as a Betta may nip at them. Also don't mix any other nippy fish like Tiger Barbs or Serpae Tetras in with the Betta.

You can put almost any kind of community fish in with a male betta, except for another male betta. When my tank is all set up with all my fish, my male betta is going to have flame tetras, neon tetras, and zebra danios as tankmates.

Yes, any small freshwater fish except another male betta. I don't think the betta would like an Oscar, but I'll bet the Oscar will like a betta ;-)

Yes male bettas can make a great community fish. Just make sure his tank mates are not nippers and are not aggressive. My betta lives with a school of neon tetras and they get along great. I think the neons are a little disspointed because he doesnt chase them - they will sit next to him and stare at him and he usually just goes for a little swim hehehhehe

I have kept these fish with betta very well.

Pristella (x-ray) tetras.
Neon Tetras
Fancy Guppies
All plecostomus
All loaches, especially botia dario and botia angelicus.
glass / ghost catfish
upside down cats.
hatchet fish

Fish to 100% keep away from bettas
Gouramis (even the dwarf ones, they WILL kill each other)
Chaka-Chaka (bettas are their food in nature)
anything big & evil. Bettas fight with each other, but are not tough.
Fancy Goldfish (like the fat wobbly pearlscale ones) Betta will kill them in a day or two.
