Heck yeah! People who are 55 or older have WAY better work ethic than 99.9999 percent of people my age (which is 27). And an apartment manager is hardly an "entry level" job. You have very likely got to have lots of experience in maintainance of buildings, fixing things that break, cleaning, and sometimes pools and hot tub maintainance. That is a job that deserves good pay. Sometimes apt. complexes will take advantage of maintainance guys/managers, so just make sure you realize that some give you very little time away from the place (you will be tied down by a 24 hr. beeper!), especially if they are offering an on-site apartment as part of the compensation. I have worked as a cleaner for many apartments, and sometimes it's a great deal and sometimes not for the managers. But most of them are 55 years and older. There is nothing wrong with that, and they are sure to hire you if you have maintainance skills, because that is a difficult skill to find these days.

Are you wondering because of their age? From what I see out there ( and NOT all the time) the older people at least have some work ethic. Some of the younger generation have no respect for their employers. They can't even pass drug test or background check..If they get the job some of them don't come to work, don't call & etc. You should be able to make a decission after the interview process. They might turn out to be a good employee....take a chance. Older people need jobs too.

Yeah, they probably have better judgement than some young kid who's never held a job before- if nothing else this person has life experience to compensate for a lack of work experience in the field.

Why would you discriminate on a persons age? You're looking at a law suit. Also that person can probably do a better job than you and be able to spell check before submitting their work or a question.

Sure. They're stable, they'll stay with the same job longer, and they're not going to get trained and then leave for something different. I prefer hiring older people: young people stay in a job a year or two and then leave.

Absolutely! They are more reliable, and life experience accounts for much more than the kid from college who still wants to party every weekend.

You absolutely cannot make age a factor in whether or not to hire someone. That's illegal.
