I can't give you a percentage, but I'd say it's pretty high because most of us, whether we admit to it or not, have our own superstitions. These may take the form of the well-known ones such as not walking under a ladder or may be completely unique to an individual--for example, Michael Jordan wearing his UNC jersey underneath his professional basketball uniform.

I have one of my own that makes me, illogically, refuse to use certain words or even write them if my son's deployed. I really don't believe that I'm all that unusual when it comes to this.

Nobody can give you a percentage because there are so many different superstitions. Some people don't even realize that they're superstitious. They do little things automatically without realizing that it's just foolish superstition.
Another problem is the definition of superstition. Some think only of black cats, broken mirrors, etc. To me, all supernatural is superstition. That includes gods, fairies, ghosts ( holy or otherwise ), zombies, casting of spells, putting curses on, angels, psysics, fortune tellers, the zodiac, anything not natural. Supernatural= superstition.

Oddly enough, I know damn well in the front of my mind that superstitions aren't real, but I sometimes find myself following them. Never chain letters, but I find myself avoiding stepping on cracks or walking under ladders, but just the same if someone confronts me about it I'll go against the superstition (if it is safe to, it generally isn't safe to be under a ladder or something like that anyway) just to show them that I can show a superstition who's boss.

I'd say at least 90% of Americans do. Most are Christian (80-87%), and I'm sure there are superstitious folks within the remainder, so round it up to 90.
