I didn't start using bc until my daughter was 6 months old. You can start it anytime that you want and since your husband is gone for 5-6 more months there is no hurry.
Congrats!

whether or not you take birth control is YOUR option and yours alone, not your doctors. If you don't want to get pregnant again right away, and you are having intercourse with anyone, then you need to take it starting now. Women are often very fertile right after giving birth.

However, if you are not sexually active and don't plan to be for 5 or 6 months, then of course you don't need birth control. It would be just fine if you wait until the month before your husband comes back to start taking it. It only takes one month to become effective.

Your doctor probably wont prescribe anything for until you go in for your 4-6 week checkup, you dont have to get it when you go for checkup, you can wait if you want to. Just get the prescription filled then hang onto it, so that you have it when you are ready to start the birth control, a script from the Dr. is only good for so many months before they wont fill it or you Dr. may just let you call when you are ready for something & they will write a script then, thats what mine does as long as it hasnt been to long since he has seen me for a checkup

Your doctor probably told you that because you're supposed to wait until 6 weeks after giving birth to start having sex again.

But yeah, if there's no chance that you'll have sex for 5-6 months, there's no point in going on anything now. If you choose the pill, just start it early enough so that its effective when hubby gets back.

My doc asked me about birth control at my first check up after the baby. I declined because I wanted to get pregnant again. I think they offer it right away so that you're on something and don't forget to go back when hubby gets home. Also, you won't be seeing your obgyn again so you'd ahve to schedule an appoinmtment with your regular GP. I think that they're just trying to make it easier for you.

If you are breastfeeding, wait until you stop that to start, but I agree with the answer, wait until a month or so before your hubby gets home and start taking it again then. Congrats on your new baby.

what do you mean he's not going to be there? But you have to wait at least a month before you have sex again anyway. You will get it at your 6 week check up.

doesn't matter. Start birth control one month before he gets home.

I would get on it until he gets home. There's no reason to be on it and it's just putting hormones in your body and in your baby's milk if you are breast feeding!! Save your money.. Congrats on the new little one!!!!

If you don't want it now then don't get it now. Tell your dr. that when you see him/her. Maybe then can make a prescription for you for then so you don't even have to come back in to get on birthcontrol. You don't HAVE to be on it!
