That in itself would not be a bad idea, it would just be difficult
to implement in a fair way.
Everybody should be allowed to pose a few stupid questions
because there are bound to be stupid people around.
And they have as much right to answers as anybody else.
Provocative and unnecessarily leading questions are some-times even more annoying, and some people just ask
questions for shock value.
I am just very wary of imposing censorship.
But I would not object to a sort of 'suspect' 'honest' button, based on
the experience of previous viewers.
It would sort of light up the question if over half the viewers
considered it a waste of time to even click it.
(after the first 10 or something like that )
In that way I could save some of my own looking for intelligent
ones deserving of an answer.
And if somebody manages to get 10 'Suspects ' in a row
temporarily suspend his voting rights till he gets 10 all clears.
If somebody after 100 still has not repented, feel free to stick
a few donkey's ears on his avatar.
How to deal with stupid answers is a different question.

We used to have that. I don't know why we don't anymore. After all, we've still got the thumbs down button for answers.

I was told once that the only dumb question was the one not asked. Perhaps a dumb question is considered such by most of us who use this yahoo service. Then again some one who is mentally deficient may not realize how simply / foolish / dumb their question is. They have a right to ask it. I know of no way that we can segregate out a dumb question from someone who is intentionally asking it for shock value / points or some need to appear stupid from someone who can't do better.

Actually...great idea. And when the question gets five thumbs down, it gets deleted and the poster gets 50 demerit points. Problem is, people would give thumbs down summarily to all questions they didn't like...so it wouldn't work.

I agree. At least it was a way to express an opinion. The "star" button now available doesn't really make much sense.

I would prefer that they eliminate the point system, the thumbs and every other form of recognition. This is supposed to be a questions and answers forum. Not a popularity contest.
And what's up with the "Top Contributor" label? I had that label a couple of weeks ago, but now I don't. My percentages of best answers is still higher than some of the top contributors. How is it that someone is determined to be a "Top Contributor"? Who determines that?
