The main thing to remember is like Pee Tee said, do your homework first. Be sure you can afford the time and money to properly care for the fish and be sure you know the basics of keeping an aquarium BEFORE you buy the tank or the first fish. Here's a link for some basic information about starting and keeping an aquarium.

It depends on what type of tank you are willing to get. A single goldfish requires at least a 10 gal tank. The only fish that should live in a bowl is a betta. Everything else will very with the type of tank you get. Once you get a tank then reask the question and you will receive a more exact suggestion. Good Luck.

My personal favorite fish is the Molly. They're pretty colors, bright, and happy. They're cute and playful and not hard to take care of at all. Goldfish are hardy, but they're usually mass produced and overcrowded which stresses them out and makes them weaker. The best advice I can give you though, no matter what kind of fish you get, it to set up the aquarium for atleast 24 hours, preferably 48 hours, before adding fish. I'm 'almost' a fish expert, so just let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi, I absolutely agree with Pee Tee's answer-any animal is a long-term commitment & especially a Goldfish who has the potential to be your friend for very many years. Please forget the bowl immediately! My advice is join a Goldfish group BEFOREHAND. Our group 'TotallyGoldfish' Will tell you all you need to know to help you decide whether a Goldfish is for you or not. As well as many people with one or 2 fish we also have professional breeders & hobbyists with many years of practical experience, all of whom are more than happy to share their vast knowledge in our very friendly group. My fish have benefited greatly from this group-come & say hello, hope to see you there soon!

Goldfishes are easiest to take care of. They are hardy, so you can keep them in a bowl. As for other fishes, you'll need to buy a heater, a tank, a UV lamp, and a heater. Or else they'll probably die. So get goldfishes.

if you just like to watch them swim get goldfish but if you like the the pretty colours get tropical but do remember tropical and other types of fish are more demanding and tricky to care for.

It takes a lot of work. First find out what maintaining an aquarium requires. Don't learn by killing fish. Do the homework first.
