In hospitals, "interns" are doctors. If you had just finished medical school, you would know that, so I assume you are NOT a doctor. If you're looking for volunteer opportunities in hospitals, you call the hospital and ask for the director of volunteers. If they have openings, they will tell you.

Everywhere. All hospitals are understaffed. Your bed pans await you, especially if they find out you aren't expecting to get paid!

There are some perks. You generally get a nice cotton green or blue uniform to wear at no charge, laundered for you at no charge, so long as you don't mind a few wrinkles.

If you're smart and hard working they'll let you do just about anything under supervision, up to and including brain surgery if the head surgeon feels you're qualifed. BUT only at that hospital.

They might also help pay for you to go to college and get a degree and license and then pay you, if they have the budget.

There is also the Army. They are looking for voullenteers and THEY PAY and THEY TRAIN. 91-Bravo, field Medic 8 weeks training, qualifies you to be a licensed EMT in the outside world. In the Army you can do ANYTHING you are trained to do, EXCEPT pull medications. A nurse has to do that.

You will draw blood, install IVs, give injections, do work ups, dispense the medications (not outside the Army, only in the Army).

You can find volunteer opportunities by contacting the local hospitals in your area. Typically, volunteer programs are run by a Central Volunteer Office, Auxiliary Office, Community Relations, or Human Resources.

Here's a hospital directory link:

You can also find related opportunities that might not have the time-intesive commitment through your volunteer center:

Volunteer centers specialize in matching you with volunteer opportunities that match your interests. There are other healthcare-related community volunteer projects they might be able to find for you.

Good luck!
