I had the same problem when I attempted to upgrade Microsoft Media Player. Having spent a long time downloading, I was asked similar questions to yours. Then I was informed that my windows were counterfeit, and I would have to pay £175 to upgrade. I went into system restore and clocked on to an earlier date. No problems since. And no I did not pay.

XP wasn't available 7 years ago. Someone probably installed an illegal copy of XP on your PC since then.

Buy an XP Home Edition Upgrade and install it.

You will need an older Windows CD.

Maybe it's time to buy a new PC?
