Nope. Not going to happen. Only a fool like Bush would spend the 1 Trillion or more necessary for a manned mission to Mars. The Russians will say 'Happy Trails' while we go bankrupt. Manned missions to Mars are just a pipe dream due to the expense involved.

I think that a private endeavor will be the first to land on Mars. If any government has anything to do with it, costs will soar and people will die. The Russians aren't as competitive as they were when they were ruled by dictators. We are not in competition with the Russians; we are cooperating completely with each other... right?

We have already been to Mars; we just haven't sent humans there yet. Not to mention that the trip would be over 6 months just to get there. Also have to take into account cosmic radiation exposure and the amount of food needed....it's practically impossible w/o unlimited amounts of money.

russia doesn't have the funds right now. Thats why they are saving up whatever money they can so that they can still afford a part in the ISS. They will not go to mars in the near future.

In my fiction book it's ESA that goes there. With the coopeation of China, India, Russia but NOT with the help of the American Government!
