need help with rear brake pads. Have the caliper off and can't get the plunger to go down so the caliper will fit back over the new pads. Can anyone help. My dad is doing this so I may not be wording this right.

The caliper piston threads in,don't try to push it in.

You need a C clamp. Put the old pad on the plunger and put the C clamp on the caliper screw it in and the piston will go in.....Make sure to remove the brake fluid reservoir cap as fluid will be pushed back through the lines.

Dont use a c clamp on the rear brakes.Tell him to get a tool and turn caliper clockwise and it will go back in.

The first answer is correct. The parking brake is incorporated in the rear brakes.

Just trying to compress it won't push it ALL the way down.

If there is a cross pattern (like a Huge plus sign) common on rear disc brakes, it actually screws back in, rather than just clamping it...

the caliper is frozen... take out the bleeder valve and try compressing the cylinder... if it's that bad you may need to buy a remanufactured one at your local autoparts store....or rebuild the calliper yourself... a rebuilt one should cost about $60
