Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed.
It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.
There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades - where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem - because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.
The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history 'as a vehicle for promoting political correctness'.
The study, funded by the Department for Education and Skills, looked into 'emotive and controversial' history teaching in primary and secondary schools.
It found some teachers are dropping courses covering the Holocaust at the earliest opportunity over fears Muslim pupils might express anti-Semitic and anti-Israel reactions in class.

Why do teh Muslims have so much power? Why is everyone so afraid to hurt their feelings. We can tell Christians creationism is BS and evolution is fact, yet we cannot tell Muslims that despite what the Koran says, the Holocaust did happen.

" "some teachers" says it all for me. Find some real facts or shut the piehole. "
If even 1 school is doing this it is too many, this report states more than 1 is. What facts do you recquire?

"Those not college educated swallow the propaganda and continue believing things like Columbus was a great man, all the founders were Christians, and the Civil War was primarily about slavery. "
I tottally agree, we all need to start teaching the facts and less P/C versions of things. It will be to our benefit to adopt this type of policy.

If they don't like it, then they can get over it. You can't deny the holocaust didn't happen. I think teaching them about it would be good for them. This whole "politically correct" stuff to avoid offending anybody is a bunch of bullsh*t. If somebody came up to me and insulted my religion, insulted my background, and (it happens all the time) insulted my political views, then I just tell myself to get over it and move on. I don't understand why other people can't do that too. Not everybody is going to believe what you believe. That's the way of life.

I don't know about Britain, but I expect the United States will carry on teaching history, not revising it entirely. Even here though, we teach a skewed view of history. Christopher Columbus for example. A horrible and cruel man who actually started the first transatlantic slave trade. But we portray him as the discoverer of North America in our history books - false, and have even given him a holiday. People don't learn about real history until they get into college and the professors start taking apart the myths and telling us the truth. The result? Those not college educated swallow the propaganda and continue believing things like Columbus was a great man, all the founders were Christians, and the Civil War was primarily about slavery.

Unfortunately, America can sometimes be obsessed with political correctness. Facts are facts. Why we have to erase history to not hurt someone's feelings is foolish. Let's take away the history of slavery/Jim Crow law, children's labor, women's oppression, and we bring us years back from progression.
A man who forgets its history repeats them. We should learn from our mistakes. It shouldn't be about race/gender/religion, it should be about the lesson learned. This could happen to ANY race of people when there is no tolerance. No one should forget that. Maybe the crisis of Dafur has shown us this has not left us. Anyone in Dafur who isn't from a certain tribe of people or religion is murdered, raped, etc. This is why these things should stay in the history books.

When I was in high school they told us the reason why History is so important is so we don't let history repeat itself. The fact that there are people that actually deny the Holocaust ever happened is very scary. This is why parents really need to be involved in their children's education.

The next logical step is to teach that women are property because that is what the Koran teaches. We'll all have to cover up completely in case we offend some poor Muslim's sensibilities and get our man's permission to go to the loo.

This is ridiculous! The responsibility of history teachers is to teach HISTORY, and that includes the uglier chapters of it. If these teachers are too cowardly to do their jobs for fear that they'll lose control in their classes, then perhaps they should look into entering a different line of work.

Not just Muslims. From the same article:
"A third school found itself 'strongly challenged by some Christian parents for their treatment of the Arab-Israeli conflict-and the history of the state of Israel that did not accord with the teachings of their denomination'. "

If we stop teaching history on the holocaust then we better stop teaching our children about God, and Jessus. If the Muslim's dont like it they can always leave the country.
Our children learn what we teach them they should know our history on all wars and how 6 million people died.

Why whitewash the truth to make some groups confortable, I don't condemn Germany for the holocaust but it happened. You are giving in to fear and censorship which is how the bad people on earth thrive. Don't do it.

History is one subject which is an equal opportunity offender. Since it is impossible to re-write history to make everyone happy, maybe this subject should be removed from all schools and universities. Most governments and religions are happier when the people are ignorant. It makes them easier to manipulate.
